The Sloppy Joe ranks high on my list of minimalist favorites because it’s incredibly simple to make, and ridiculously cheap. If you ate nothing but Sloppy Joe’s for the rest of your life, you could cut your food budget by roughly 73%!!!
Okay I made that up, but it’s probably true.
Here’s the simple recipe for the classic meal of the Sloppy Joe:
10 Simple Ingredients-1/2 cup water -1 tablespoon vegetable oil -Salt and pepper -1 chopped onion
-1 teaspoon each ground chili powder and cumin
-1 chopped clove of garlic
-1 pound (2 handfuls or 2 cups) ground beef -1 cup tomato sauce
-1 cup chili sauce -Bread
3 Simple Steps
1. Saute onions: Heat your vegetable oil in a large skillet, and throw in the onions when it’s hot. Cook for 5 minutes.
2. Add beef and garlic: Cook until the meat is done.
3. Add the rest: Stir in the rest of the ingredients and continue to stir until it starts bubbling, then reduce the heat to let it simmer for 5-10 minutes.
For the highest quality of taste, simmer for the full 10 minutes, but you can easily cut the time down to around 5 minutes total if you’re in a hurry!
